César Tralli ended the week on Jornal Hoje with sad news. The edition of the news program this Friday (4) showed details of a tragic bus accident that occurred on a highway in Rio Grande do Sul during the morning.
“Look at this tragedy. Seven people died in an accident involving a bus carrying students from the Federal University of Santa Maria, in Rio Grande do Sul,” said César Tralli. The presenter then spoke with reporter Léo Bartz.
Accident details
A tragic accident occurred on the RSC-453, between km 3 and 4, in the municipality of Imigrante (RS), and killed seven people, six women and one man, who have not yet been officially identified. The bus was carrying students and teachers from the Landscaping course at the Polytechnic College of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM).
The group was due to take part in a technical visit to the Horst cactus garden, known for housing around 2,000 species of cacti and occupying an area of 15,000 m². According to information from the Military Brigade Road Command (CRBM), the bus lost its brakes while traveling in the direction of Teutônia–Imigrante, left the road on the left side and ended up falling down a ravine.
The accident happened around 11:15 am, and the bus was carrying more than 30 people at the time of the tragedy. Twenty-two people were injured, some seriously, and were taken to hospitals in the region.
Public reacts on social media
Rescue teams from the Fire Department, Military Brigade, Aviation Battalion and Environmental Battalion were quickly mobilized. The Ouro Branco Hospital in Teutônia received 17 injured people, five of them in serious condition, while another six people were taken to the Estrela Hospital. On social media, many people spoke out about the accident. “How sad to see this news about the UFSM Polytechnic bus accident,” wrote one internet user.
