Cartago, Colombia – A new tragedy has gripped the department of Valle del Cauca after a violent shooting that claimed the lives of two young people and left a third seriously injured. The incident occurred Sunday night in the San Nicolás neighborhood of the municipality of Cartago, where moments of terror and despair were experienced.
The victims were identified as Jonathan Giraldo Orozco, 20, and Paulina Ossa Londoño, 17. Both were residents of the municipality of La Virginia, in the department of Risaralda, and were in Cartago, presumably visiting acquaintances when the tragic incident occurred.
According to witnesses, the young people were gathered in a house in the area when, suddenly, armed men arrived and opened fire without warning. The burst of gunfire caused panic among those present and neighbors, who immediately alerted the authorities.
Jonathan and Paulina died at the scene due to the severity of their injuries. Karen Díaz, 25, who also lives in La Virginia, was also injured in the incident. She was rushed to a medical center where, according to the latest medical report, she is fighting for her life.
Local authorities immediately launched a search operation in the area and have opened an investigation to determine the cause and perpetrators of the attack. Although specific details about possible motives have not yet been revealed, it has not been ruled out that the incident is related to disputes between criminal gangs operating in the region.
The commander of the Valle del Cauca Police stated that security cameras in the surrounding area are being reviewed and witness statements are being taken to identify the perpetrators of the double homicide. “We will not rest until we find those responsible for this unfortunate incident,” he stated.
Family and friends of the victims are devastated. In La Virginia, the community has expressed its grief and condemnation of the crime. Paulina was a student just beginning to build her future, and Jonathan was a hardworking young man, well known in his neighborhood for his cheerful and helpful nature.
